I Shared my Saba

On my way to work today, a teenage boy boarded the jeepney where I am seated and started giving out envelopes. He then sat down at the rear part of the jeepney and started to play music with his improvised drum set matched with whistling.

After his performance, he collected back the envelopes, which was where we should put our alms (which they most preferred to be money). Yes, I did give him alms, but not money (I don't give money to beggars, only food). So I took out my nilagang saba that was supposed to be my merienda, and gave to the young boy. I did not hear any "Thank you" but still I am happy that I was able to share with him the food that I have.

Kuya Wants Money

Today, I have to commute to work because daddy's assigned in Gen. Santos until next week. I decided to ride the longer route to work, which requires less walk and less energy but higher fare.

When I unboarded the jeepney at Lower Bicutan (Jollibee) intersection, I decided to buy some bread at Earn's Bakeshop. While I was buying bread, an abled man (he looks like one, he has no disability) but quite dirty and holding some envelopes (like those unfortunate Filipinos who climb up jeepneys, give envelopes to all passengers and ask them to put money in it) asked for some money. It is my personal principle to not give money as alms, instead give food to beggars. So I ordered another batch of bread and gave it to the man. Surprisingly, he does not want to accept it! We said that what he wants is money. I insisted that he take the bread coz I will not give him any money. Then he walked away.

So now I have 8pcs of bread, which I am not quite sure how will I consume the entire day.

Anyway, I proceeded to the tricycle terminal where I saw an elderly woman sitting in the corner and asking for alms. Immediately, I took out from my tote bag the bread that was supposed to be for the man and gave it to the woman. She was SOOO happy, saying, "Salamat, ineng".

The bread I gave to 'lola' is similar to this.
4 pieces of long donut with cheese and sugar coating :)

I felt happy to, for I was able to make 'lola' smile for some breads worth 20pesos.

Syempre, happiness should not costly diba?

What do you think? Was it proper for me to not give money to the abled man? Was the 4pieces of bread that I gave to the woman, enough?

I'm Still Alive and I'm Baacck!

Woah!!

I've checked my dashboard and was surprised that the last post I made was way back September 2013.

Lots of things came up between that date and today, such as:

  • 2014: resigned from my first job and got a new job - I am now a bureaucrat!
  • 2014: got married to my eternal partner in  Manila Phils temple :)
  • 2015: purchased our 1st house - a mid-rise condo unit in Taguig City
  • 2015: had our 1st baby - a girl, we named her Jewel
  • 2017: had our 2nd baby - a boy, his name is Jesper
  • 2018: purchased our 2nd house - a house and lot in Cavite area
  • 2018: helped daddy in his work adjustments
But despite all those busy-ness and adjustments, I am now back with my crazy and not so crazy thoughts.

I have decided to create a unique portion called "Simple Acts of Service" where I will be recording some simple ways that I serve my fellowmen :)

So, welcome again [to me] to my blog *___*
